The Science Savvy series of workshops provide teachers with numerous
hands-on activities to teach science as well as other subject areas
using safe, inexpensive food products and agriculturally connected
lessons.
- Literature Links to Agriculture - Uses popular children’s
literature with an agricultural theme to teach science, math and
language arts.
- Sweet Science -Hands on activities featuring candy and
candy ingredients will link science, math, geography, social studies
and language arts.
- Supermarket Science - Using the 30 minute video Food Doesn’t
Grow in the Supermarket, and common food items, teachers will learn
hands-on cross-curricular activities to teach students about the
scientific process and where their food comes from.
- Corny Science - Learn several hands-on activities to teach
science using corn and corn products. Some topics to be covered include
states of matter, volume, density and plant life cycles as well as
incorporating math, language arts and social studies concepts.
- Smart Snacks - Hands on science lessons that examine why certain foods are better for us than others.
